ABSTRACT
The study was carried out on
Assessment of Phytoextraction Potential of Waltheria Indica in Crude Oil
Contaminated Soil from Obigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria.
This was with the aim of determining the heavy metal contamination of the soil
before and after planting as well as the quantity extracted by the plant from
the soil. The plant was subjected to different treatments of:
Nitrogen/Phosphorus/Potassium (NPK), Composted Market Waste (CMW), No
Amendments (NA) and Control. The plants were harvested after 3 months and
properly labelled and taken to the laboratory for analysis. Both soil and
plants were analysed for heavy metals and physico-chernical properties (pH,
particle size, OM, OC, P, Ni, Cd, Pb, Cu, Fe and Zn). Heavy metals were
analysed using using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The data
collected were subjected to One-way ANOVA at p
