ABSTRACT

This  research work,   dealt with  Appraisal  of the  impact  of public  sector accounting   system  on government ministries   performances  in Nigeria.   The accounting   system that exist within the tiers of government in  Nigeria is for good  governance.      It  enhances  efficient   performance  and    evaluation, transparency and accountability.    But it has been observed with  dismay  that some  problems exist  in  accounting  system in   the  public   sectors.     The researcher tried to Look  into  the  accounting system  practiced in Abia  State to find out  the cause  of such problems.   To find out whether the accounting system practice  in  this state is  in line with the theoretical  concepts of public sector accounting system.   To dictate out if there is inadequate   accounting system  practiced  in   government  ministries   or  establishments.    And  to recommend   the  methods  and  techniques    to  be  adopted  in   order  to overcome such problems.   This project has been divided into five chapters. Chapter one deals with  the  introductory   aspects  of the  research.      This chapter is further divided into seven other subheadings.    Chapter two deals with what other authors  have written  about public   sector (literature  review). Chapter    three focuses  on the  research    instrument  used.   Chapter   four deals on the data presentation,  analysis   and testing of hypothesis  with on of the  modern   statistical tools   (chi-square).   The fifth chapter contains  the summary   of  the  findings,   recommendations    and  conclusi.on.    From the conclusion   it has  been established   that inadequate   use of  public    sector accounting  information system leads  to inefficiency  in  productivity.
