ABSTRACT
This research work investigated the accounting practices
existing in the public sector of the Nigerian economy from primary and
secondary sources. The Analyses of Variance (ANOVA) were used to the hypothesis
formulated. Based on responses received from the respondents and analyses
thereof findings were made which include that the inappropriate application of
accounting practices did nol cause ineffectiveness of the public sector. The
lack of skilled manpower did not have bad financial reporting, bad governance
and fraud. Base on the above findings, the researcher recommends that
accountability should be ripped up and encouraged by taking adequate deciphers
action on any public servant baiting in discharge of his duty
