Analysis On Problems And Prospects Of The Nigerian Stock Exchange Market. A Case Study Of The Port-Harcourt Trading Floor
ABSTRACT
The stock exchange market is a market for
dealing on new issue of share (primary market) as well as exchanging the
existing one (secondary market). In other words, it is a market for buying and
selling of securities stock, shares and bonds. This research work on project is
effectively designed to appraise the problems and prospects of the Nigerian
stock exchange, one of the listing capital markets in Nigeria, taking
particular reference to the Port-Harcourt trading floor. The study was aimed at
identifying the problems and likely prospects of the exchange market. In
accomplishing these objectives, the primary data was used due to the nature of
this research. Information was gotten from the respondents through the use of
questionnaires and appropriate statistical test like the chi- square model was
employed to test the hypothesis. Basic research questions were tested at 5%
level of significance. Findings from the study reveal that the Nigerian stock
market has not fared well when matched with other stock exchange market over
the world, due to lack if information on stock market and high cost of listing
requirements. Some recommendations were made such that proper awareness and
sufficient information should be made available. Also listing requirements on
the stock exchange a. market and policies affecting it should be restructured,
reevaluated and re-appraised in order to maintain an efficient stock exchange
market.
