An Evaluation Of The Role Of Micro Finance Banks In Economic Growth And Development In Nigeria.
ABSTRACT
Micro finance bank in Nigeria has not been affecting peoples
life in the time past due to hectic and inviability of fund to their disposal
and government policy that has constrained their activities, and ground it to
the background. Consolidation has greatly revolutionized and turned the
community banks into micro finance banks. The research study centers on the
impact of micro finance banks and to solve the research problem, secondary data
were collected. The research instrument used in collecting data was adopted
from CBN bulletin. In analyzing and presenting data adopted, the least square
method was used. The hypotheses were tested using t — statistics data analysis
and interpretation led to the following findings. It is discovered that loans
to agriculture and loans to deposit contribution are not adequate to enhance
economic growth, productivity and development. I recommend that micro finance
banks should increase the proportion of loans allocated to agriculture and loans
to deposit contribution, effective implementation of policy framework that would
regulate and standardize operations, increased mobilization of savings and shifting
a good proportion of credit portfolio to agriculture and manufacturing.
