ABSTRACT
The study 0fl fanner adoption of National Root
Crop Research Institution's value-added cassava technologies by rural women in
Umuahia North Local (government Area of Abia State was carried out for the
purpose of determining the extent of adoption of these value- added cassava
among rural women in Umuahia North L.G.A, data were collected using primary and
secondary sources. A total of 108 rural women farmers were sampled with the use
of a well structural questionnaire and data were analyzed using descriptive
statistics, classical adoption model (AJETA) multiple regression arid
correlation analysis. Result of multiple regression on value-added cassava
technologies in the study area shows that variables such as age, membership of
cooperative society, income and farm size were found to be significant
determinants of adoption of value-added to cassava technologies. The
R2(coefficient of multiple determination) is 0.49 which means that 49% of th variation
is explained by the variable included in the model. The overall result from the
study shows that the adoption level of the technological package was above
average with a mean adoption score of 4.25 high cost of modern processing
facilities was found to be a factor affecting adoption and it was recommended
that more training and workshop on value-added to cassava technologies should
be organized for farmers more frequently and more awareness should be created
through mass media, cooperative societies and loans provided to appropriate
authorities to fabricate equipment's needed to meet the demand in valued-added
cassava technologies.
