ABSTRACT

This research “Accounting for External Debt Management” (problems and prospect) a study of Nigeria was designed to highlight the important of proper Accounting and Management of External Debts in Nigeria. The study addi esses the problems of External Debts Management and ways to solve these problems. The major objective of the study was to examine Nigeria’s External Debts Management and other objectives include to examine the relationships between External Debts Management and Investment in Nigei ia s, the effect of External Debts Management on Gross Domestic Project and other Factors that made Nigeria’s Economy to perform badly than External Debt Management. Hypothesis were tested on these objectives using primary data collected through. Questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square method (x2) to reach significant testing. The findings show that Poor Accounting of External Debt Management affects Investment in Nigeria, there are other factors that made Nigeria’s Economy to perform badly than External Debt Management and External Debt Management has a relationship with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria. We recommend that the Government should adopt External Debt Management Laws and Policies that will promote Foreign Investment in Nigeria and reduce the penalty charges on External Debts as well as encourage the diversification of Nigeria’s Economy through Agriculture and Solid Minerals to reduce over dependence on the petroleum sector.
